In life, the journey to finding one's true calling often takes unexpected turns, leading us down paths we never imagined. For me, that journey began over a decade ago when I embarked on a quest to find a job where I could continue to help people and make a difference in their lives. Little did I know that this journey would lead me to my dream job at Alala, a place where I've spent the last 11 years fulfilling my passion for spreading joy and bringing smiles to people's faces.
My career started in a vastly different field, I was a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). While I cherished the opportunity to care for others, I eventually reached a point where I felt the need for a change. However, my desire to continue helping people remained unwavering. Thus began my quest to find a role that would allow me to combine my skills with my passion for making a positive impact.
My journey at Alala began modestly, as I joined the billing department. It was a stepping stone, a starting point from which I could begin to explore new opportunities within the company. With dedication and perseverance, I worked my way up, demonstrating my commitment and capability every step of the way.
The turning point came when I transitioned into the role of a mastectomy fitter. Suddenly, I found myself in a position where I could directly contribute to improving the lives of breast cancer survivors. Helping these warriors regain their confidence and feel comfortable in their own skin was immensely fulfilling. It was during this time that I realized the profound impact I could have by simply bringing a smile to someone's face.
As time passed, my role at Alala continued to evolve. Today, I have the privilege of managing the Charleston location, overseeing operations, and ensuring that our clients receive the highest level of care and support. But my responsibilities extend beyond the confines of a single location—I also travel to Sumter and Hampton, ensuring that our warriors always have access to the resources and assistance they need.
Reflecting on my journey, I'm filled with gratitude for the unexpected twists and turns that led me to where I am today. At 50 years old, I never imagined I would find my dream job, yet here I am, living proof that it's never too late to pursue your passions and make a meaningful impact.
Working at Alala isn't just a job for me—it's a calling. Every day, I wake up with a sense of purpose, knowing that I have the opportunity to brighten someone's day and make a difference in their life. Whether it's fitting a mastectomy patient with a prosthesis or simply offering a listening ear, I cherish the moments I spend connecting with others and spreading positivity.
In a world often filled with uncertainty, finding fulfillment and purpose is a journey worth embarking on. My story is a testament to the power of perseverance, passion, and the unwavering belief that no matter where life takes you, there's always an opportunity to find your place and make a difference.
